not 8000 words

Summary of the past two weeks in pictures, because I have run out of words after too much emailing and being sociable.

the day before the Bone Marrow Donor Foundation Gala Dinner

The plus side to doing a gig at Mandarin is...

Got there early and beat the infamous queue, but by the time we left there was quite a long one.
Nice soup, super thin noodles. It works for those on a diet. It doesn't work if you have something to do after dinner that requires energy. Not even if you supplement that with Spinelli's iced chocolate.
For the easily hungry, check out Burger Bench at Cineleisure instead

Burger (around $8) + chips ($1)
If you are lucky enough, you get purple chips.
If burger and chips are insufficient...

(what a black hole your stomach is! You can audition to be my meal partner..)

 Dark Chocolate soft serve $3
how awesome is this.

And after all that unhealthy (but real) food, it's back to ichiban's sashimi salad post inch chua gig.

When I finally got the chance to spend more time at home, this was what happened...

Massive fire from the nearby industrial estate that took a few hours to clear.
Good sound drama with the fire engines police and ambulance.

And the last day of the week which also marks the beginning of the work week with the korean drama music concert coming up this weekend...

Aston's Wagyu Beef Burger $9.90
Looks totally non descript but it was surprisingly good.
This should keep me alive till next Wednesday.

in hiding

Apparently spammers have been very interested in leaving random advertising comments on this blog which is why I'm back again, writing.

First week of school and already I have become some sort of loanshark chasing up bounced cheques and unpaid bills. Some students have suddenly become hardworking and focused. Others are their usual distracted selves.

Spent half of the day writing out the cello parts for some collaboration happening next weekend at the concourse. Details here. Finally finished with most of the pieces - and there is something about writing notes that makes one feel like a musician, although I still feel like a fake cellist and it is a hot discussion topic with my cello Grandmaster / therapist / Yoda.

New Year's resolution (surprise!) is to read more of the Bible. Am currently reading 3 books concurrently - Joshua 1 Kings and Psalms. A recent confrontation on an issue has left me wondering about hermeneutics - the literal vs the allegorical readings of the Bible. The latter leaves the text 'open to interpretation', and any of the subsequent interpretations cannot be refuted, which makes any sort of debate rather pointless.

If I survive until Chinese New Year, what with the multiple performances per week and absolutely no weekends, I will emerge from my social bombshelter.

Twennyten

How long before a blog gets shut down due to neglect?

What a hopeful way to start the first blog post of the year.

The transition into the year felt like labour pains - not like I would know what that feels like but I venture to imagine.

Three holidays in a row - Desaru Penang and Hong Kong - the last proved to be the killer.

I have reached the conclusion that Hong Kong's food, although plenteous and generally good (which can be attributed to the oil, salt and MSG), is rather unhealthy. Too much meat and carbs. The only real find was Itamae Sushi 板前寿司 that had awesome jumbo scallops.

Jetstar flight back from Hong Kong was delayed (from 815 pm to 9 am), but the airline was nice enough to put us up at Marriot. The bed was huge (read: can fit 3 of me) and in my starved and delirious (stomach flu or food poisoning) state I initially didn't know which part of it to occupy.

But that was probably the best rest I had in a while. On the big bed, I mean.

Need a break to recover from the holidays, but term is reopening next week i.e. in 2 more days.
